Acceptable Forms of ID for Notarization

Clients must present a valid, unexpired photo ID issued by a government agency. Acceptable IDs include:

  1. State-Issued Driver’s License or Non-Driver ID
  2. U.S. Passport or Passport Card
  3. Foreign Passport (with U.S. Visa or I-94 if applicable)
  4. U.S. Military ID
  5. Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)
  6. State-Issued ID from another U.S. state
  7. NYC Municipal ID (IDNYC) – Acceptable in many cases, but not for all legal documents
  8. Inmate ID (issued by NY State Department of Corrections – must be current)

⚠️ Important ID Requirements:

  • Must be current (not expired)
  • Must include a clear photo, full name, and signature
  • Must be issued by a government agency

🚫 Not Accepted:

  • Work or School ID
  • Credit or Debit Cards
  • Social Security Card
  • Birth Certificate (alone)
